I was a patient for City Dental for several years before a filling fell out the 4th of July weekend in 2022. I had terrible pain on the left side of my mouth (tooth 14 and 15). Dr. Atsen did a root canal in 14 and 15, but did a terrible job and did not get a CTC scan to look at the roots before doing the procedure. Both root canals failed. Dr. Atsen redid one. Whenever I told him about the severe pain I was in, he told me I had TMJ and to put a warm washcloth across my face. Meanwhile, I had a raging infection in tooth 14 and 15. I saw a TMJ specialist, and the specialist told me I did not have TMJ and that my jaw was in excellent condition. He said the issue was an underlying tooth infection and crown occusion. I had another dentist look at the crown in 14, and it turns out Dr. Atsen ordered the wrong size crown and forcefully put it on tooth 14, even though it didn't fit. I've since had it adjusted three times, and will have to order a new crown to replace it. The too-large crown digs into size 15 and presses into the gum. Avoid Dr. Atsen and City Dental to protect your health. Going to his office for dental treatment was truly the worst decision I have ever made in my life. I have since gotten a CTC scan, and found out there was a raging infection in the nerves in 14 and 15, and gotten those teeth retreated at an endodontist. Dr. Atsen is not detail-oriented or careful enough to complete root canal procedures, and is condescending to his female patients when they share their experience with him. To tell a patient to put a warm washcloth on their face and be less stressed when there is a serious infection in tooth 14 and 15 is disgraceful and dangerous. Avoid him. If I go back in time and could change any decision in my life, I would change having gone to seen Dr. Val Atsen DDS at City Dental. Less

After putting on a veneer that fell off twice, City Dental refused to fix their error and re-cement the veneer at no cost to me or work with my insurance. They had no record of the procedure and seem to be incompetent overall. I would recommend any other dentist in New York over City Dental.

I called their office to make an appointment and I asked if they took my insurance they said YES, when I was there they make me paid the copay then wait again. Then they told me that they DO NOT take my insurance. I don't know how the dentists are here but their front office people are certainly the WORST.

She didn't reply, then I when out of the office and called my wife, and when I went back to the Receptionist informed me that there were additional co-pays in total about $775. By now, I was fuming. I believe City Dentist knew all along that I would be billed a co-pay and said nothing. They knew it's not likely that a patient would walk out without such an essential part of their mouthpiece, so they waited for that vulnerable moment then hit you with the surprise! After losing my job during Covid, I decided to do something I was dreading to do for a long time. I knew it is time to do cosmetic work, but never found courage. After doing extensive research and consulting with several dentists (who charge for their consultations), I decided to follow my friend’s suggestion. She had veneers done by Dr. Taranov about 8-10 years ago and was very happy with his work. I admire her smile and consulted with Dr. Taranov. He was patient and I did not feel that I was being sold. He actually recommended to do less veneers for me than other dentists. It was important to me that he works with one of the best labs in NYC. Dr. Taranov discussed different materials and why e-max is good for some people, but zirconium is better for others. He also explained importance of finding the right color for veneers. It is not all color and size fits all! He takes your skin tone, the way you smile and color of your existing teeth into consideration. Manager, Victoria, discussed price with me and I found that it is reasonable. I was not looking for cheap work, I was looking for good professional. I can save money of the purse or dinner, but not on my health and my smile. For the benefit of first-timers, I will describe the process. On the day of my consultation, Dr. Taranov made impressions and sent them to his lab. The lab produced the model of how my teeth are going to look like. After seeing the model (I think it is called wax-up), I made my final decision to proceed with the case. Next visit took about 2-3 hours. I truly appreciate Dr. Taranov and his assistant, Michelle, telling me each time what they were going to do and why. Of course, drilling and suction is not pleasant, but doctor made everything possible to make me comfortable. I guess I am a bit of a chicken and gave him more trouble than other patients, but he did not show it. He stopped every time when he saw that I needed rest. In two weeks, I came for my exciting day. Doctor took off my temporaries (very simple) and cleaned around a bit. He patiently made several adjustments to make sure that my bite is correct and voila: my veneers are done! Summary: I am very happy with the way my veneers look and feel. I am happy with the color – not he whitest color possible, but the one that makes you look younger. It is not he color that people would say “Ah, you have done some cosmetic work.” It is the color that people say: “You look fresh and happy” but they do not necessarily know why. When looking for the right professional, do your research, ask the questions. Dr. Taranov and his stuff answer questions (multiple times, if need be) and they are there for you to hold your hand through this whole process. Hope this helps someone to make the right choice. I suffer from anxiety due to last bad experiences but the staff here were VERY pleasant, my procedure didn’t hurt! I couldn’t believe it. I came in scared and left laughing! I think I have to get a cavity filled so looking to go back with no reservation (except for COVID) but calling for appointment because I trust them!

When I arrived, I was the only one waiting. The receptionist called me over to take my temperature and her mask was hanging loosely under her nose. I said please put your mask properly over your nose before I come close to you for my temperature. I was upset. She did what I asked and pulled her mask back down after she finished. Then I noticed another worker boldly not wearing a masks at all. The service from the dentist and the assistants was excellent but the office staff are taking risk with the customers lives. As I was leaving, there was a customer seated in the receptionist area without a mask. Why wasn’t he asked to put his mask on? I will not be going back. I am high risk and I don’t want to get COVID-19 from my dentist’s office. Less

Went in on sept 17th. Be aware of fees after services are done. They will nickle and dime you. Went in for cleaning and X-rays at City Dental, before going asked on the phone if could get copies of X-rays, was told I could. After the procedure, asked for copies of my X-ray, was told I need to pay $10. For services my insurance pays. Other places I've been to don't charge.

Have dental benefits through my union and this is by far the best office to go to. I went to a few really not nice places before and it was such a surprise my first time here. The staff is super friendly and the office is very clean. Never have to wait for my appointment and last time I was seen 10 minutes early! The best!!!!

The staff is great. The actual dentist...not so much. They convinced me to get a bridge that they had to redo 3 times in two years due to it falling out and I had to pay for the third time. I'm now in a different state and the third one that they did not even a year ago is so bad that my current dentist wants to talk to the dentist from City Dental to tell him how bad the work is. I now have to pay for a whole new bridge because the 3rd one I received from City Dental was a horrible job. I had a missing tooth way in the back and to get a bridge they had to saw down two perfectly good surrounding teeth. They said I needed it because my teeth would shift if I didnt. When in actuality my teeth have shifted a ton since I've gotten the bridge and they are now crooked. Would not recommend them. Ever. First time there DR Papondo got right to work on my teeth pain free. Had a wisdom tooth pulled I did not swell and did not feel a thing. I recommend him to anybody new coming.

This place is amazing! The staff are warm and friendly. I have been avoiding the dentists for years because of bad experiences in the past but after today, all that has changed. I just came back from City Dental and was very satisfied with the service I get from them. I have not been to a dentist in a while so I was due. I called in the am & got a pm appointment the same day, I was very happy about that. Prior to my call to City Dental I called several other dentist who gave me appointments ranging from the next day to a week. The Hygienist Elana was very nice & understanding and explained what she was doing and why she was doing it. I had to get a couple of fillings and a deep cleaning done all which were pain free thanks to the HUGE used to numb my gums lol.I plan on returning to City Dental for my follow up exam in 6 months.
