Course Description:
The program consists of a combination of lectures and guided labs that will incorporate an evidence-based approach to allow participants to use current research to solve patient care and rehabilitation issues related to pelvic girdle pathology, movement screening and treatment-based classification of patients with lower back pain and/or lower extremity dysfunction. Participants will receive instruction encompassing pelvic girdle evaluation tools, including but not limited to SIJ provocation testing and movement screening clusters.
The speaker will provide historical and current evidence regarding management, clinical evaluation, and rehabilitation of SIJ pathology and/or lower extremity dysfunction. Up-to-date research regarding the functional pelvic girdle’s role in lower back pain and/or lower extremity dysfunction will be presented to clearly illustrate the need to adapt current practice to match the evolution of our understanding of the impact of SIJ treatment on functional outcomes.
Purpose of the course:
This course is designed to familiarize the learner with the management of individuals with pelvic joint disorders and will focus on an understanding of lumbo-pelvic anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology, and how this knowledge better enables the physical therapist to examine, evaluate, and plan treatment interventions to aid patient recovery. Additionally, the learner will develop clinical reasoning and decision-making skills through practical evaluation and treatment labs.
