We’re heading to Event Cinemas Strathpine to see Avengers: Endgame Encore on the big screen. Participants can relax, enjoy the movie and spend time with friends in a fun, supported community setting.
Cinema Day is also a great opportunity to build social confidence, independence and community participation skills — from navigating a public venue and making choices to enjoying a shared experience with peers.

* Slips, trips or falls within the cinema, shopping centre, toilets, entry areas, stairs or surrounding public spaces
* Participant becoming separated from the group or leaving the designated activity area without notifying staff
* Interaction with members of the public in a busy community environment
* Road, traffic and car park risks when arriving at or departing from the cinema
* Risks associated with vehicle transport for participants using the door-to-door pick up and drop off service
* Emotional distress, anxiety or sensory overload due to crowds, noise, darkness, movie volume, visual effects or the cinema environment
* Distress or dysregulation associated with themes, scenes or content within the movie
* Challenging behaviours or interpersonal conflict between participants
* Allergic reactions or dietary concerns associated with cinema snacks and drinks
* Choking while consuming popcorn, confectionery, snacks or drinks
* Participant requiring access to the bathroom or leaving the cinema during the movie
* Medical event or participant becoming unwell while away from home
* Emergency evacuation of the cinema or shopping centre
* Unexpected changes to movie times, venue arrangements or other circumstances affecting the planned activity
## Potential Repercussions
* Minor injuries including cuts, bruises, strains or sprains
* Participant becoming temporarily separated from the group
* Emotional distress, anxiety, sensory overload, withdrawal or dysregulation
* Conflict or behavioural escalation impacting the participant or group
* Allergic reaction or choking requiring first aid or medical assistance
* Illness or medical event requiring first aid, parent/guardian collection or emergency assistance
* Injury associated with vehicle, pedestrian or car park environments
* Serious incident requiring emergency services or evacuation from the venue
## Alternative Options
* Access to a quieter area outside the cinema where appropriate and safe to do so
* Sensory supports such as headphones or ear defenders where appropriate
* Participant may take a supported break from the cinema if they become overwhelmed or distressed
* Alternative snacks or drinks based on known dietary requirements and allergies
* Additional individual support where this has been arranged based on the participant's support needs
* Parent/guardian collection if a participant is unable to safely or comfortably continue with the activity
* Alternative Marching Forward activities may be considered where a participant is identified as unsuitable for the cinema environment prior to the excursion
## Strategies to Reduce Risk
* Ensure participant profiles, medical information, allergies, individual risk assessments, emergency contacts and relevant consent forms are reviewed prior to attendance
* Maintain appropriate staff-to-participant ratios based on individual support needs
* Establish a clear meeting point, supervision zones and group boundaries before entering the venue
* Conduct regular participant headcounts and check-ins, particularly when entering or leaving the cinema, accessing bathrooms and moving through public areas
* Participants to notify a staff member before leaving the group or cinema for any reason
* Staff to accompany or appropriately supervise participants requiring support to access bathrooms or other areas of the venue
* Provide clear behavioural and safety expectations at the beginning of the activity
* Maintain active supervision while navigating car parks, pedestrian crossings, shopping centre areas and cinema entrances
* Where Marching Forward provides transport, ensure participants are transported in accordance with organisational transport procedures, including appropriate seatbelt and vehicle safety requirements
* Review known food allergies and dietary requirements before purchasing or distributing snacks and drinks
* Monitor participants while eating and provide appropriate assistance where a participant has identified eating or swallowing support needs
* Prepare participants for the cinema environment where required, including expected noise levels, darkness, crowds and movie duration
* Allow participants to use appropriate sensory supports and provide supported breaks where required
* Monitor participants for signs of anxiety, distress, illness, fatigue or dysregulation throughout the outing
* Ensure staff have charged mobile phones, emergency contact details and access to relevant participant information
* Staff to be aware of venue exits and follow Event Cinemas' emergency and evacuation procedures if required
* Ensure participants understand what to do if they become separated from the group, including remaining in a safe public location and contacting or approaching Marching Forward staff
* Adapt support throughout the activity according to individual participant needs and changing circumstances
* Contact parents/guardians or emergency services where required if a participant becomes unwell, distressed, injured or cannot safely continue with the activity
