Disciple-Maker Commitment

I am committing to the identity of a disciple-maker within the KC Underground Network.

As a disciple-maker, I commit to a life of being a servant and living on mission in the context to which Jesus has sent me. In that context, I will engage relationally, demonstrate and proclaim the Gospel, and partner with the Holy Spirit to make new disciples.

I commit to serving daily the microchurch that emerges in my context or the microchurch to which I am associated in another context.

Finally, I commit to a life of service within my local collective, local Hub, and the greater KC Underground Network.

While I realize that I may fail at times to fully keep the following commitments, I believe it is important that I purpose in my heart and confirm publicly my desire to keep these commitments as God enables me:

SPIRITUAL COMMITMENTS

  • I will continue to surrender to Jesus as Lord by moving from unbelief to belief in Jesus in all areas of life.

  • I endorse wholeheartedly and without reservation the Apostles Creed, the Underground Manifesto, and the Lausanne Covenant. (*CLICK HERE and scroll down to review these covenants)

  • I will commit to the rhythms of extraordinary prayer and fasting, incarnational living, and planting the Gospel within my network of relationships (See Missionary Pathway).

  • I will lead a moral life consistent with the character standards for Elders set out in scripture (1 Timothy 3:1-13, Titus 1:5-9). If I have a serious moral lapse, I will promptly bring this to the attention of the governing elders to whom I am accountable. I will cooperate with their counsel about how this problem may affect my ministry role. If, and/or when civil disobedience is required to maintain my Christian witness I will seek the counsel of governing elders or hub directors before proceeding.

  • I will maintain a healthy relational life. If any of my relationships is experiencing serious problems, I will promptly bring this to the attention of governing elders or hub leaders and cooperate with their counsel/correction regarding my relational wholeness.

MICROCHURCH COMMITMENTS

  • I will celebrate and honor microchurch as the primary form of church that best houses a disciple-making movement. I commit to seeing a microchurch emerge or participating in an extended spiritual family, consistently engaging the rhythms of worship, community, and mission.

  • I agree to never exploit or use the Underground, other missionaries, or my microchurch for my own personal, financial, or emotional gain. I agree to serve them as best I can, placing their needs above my own.

  • I will forgive those who wrong me, and I will not tolerate an attitude of bitterness or strife in my own heart. I purpose to conduct myself with humility, compassion, and forbearance toward my brothers and sisters in Christ. As God convicts me to do so, I will seek forgiveness from those whom I have wronged.

NETWORK COMMITMENTS

  • I will be an active advocate of our network-wide vision to see disciples made, microchurches emerge, and Kansas City filled with the beauty, justice, and Good News of Jesus.

  • I will offer my voice in helping to make decisions, guiding the KC Underground with wisdom and fairness.

  • I will consistently attend training and engage coaching as a disciple-maker and/or Microchurch leader.

  • As God has blessed me, I will be a consistent and generous financial supporter of the KC Underground, trusting that the directors of each hub will wisely use these resources to bless others.

Above all, I will love, remembering that this characteristic should mark us as Jesuss disciples and remind the world of His message and His cross. As the Lord Jesus guides me, by His grace, with humility, I fully commit to be a disciple-maker in the Underground for one year.
