We, the Villagers, Peace Hubs, Anchor Partners, providers, and community leaders of this Promise Zone, unite in a shared commitment to build and sustain peace. We recognize that peace does not require us to agree on everything. It requires us to agree on how we will disagree, how we will treat one another, and how we will work together for the well-being of our children, families,
and communities.
Together, we pledge: To Disagree Well. We will seek understanding before judgment, engage differences with dignity, and remain in relationship even when our perspectives conflict. We will challenge ideas without devaluing people.
To Honor Every Voice. We will create spaces where every resident can be heard, respected, and valued without surrendering their identity, experiences, or beliefs. We recognize that different experiences can reveal different truths. To Seek Truth Together. We will use community experiences, shared data, and honest dialogue to understand the challenges facing our neighborhoods. No single institution, organization, or individual owns the truth of our Village. To Choose Accountability and Restoration. We will acknowledge harm, accept responsibility, and create pathways for healing, reconciliation, and meaningful second chances. We believe accountability and belonging can
coexist.
To Remember, Reconcile, and Rebuild. We will make space to acknowledge our community’s history, confront the harm that has divided us, and work intentionally to restore trust across generations.
To Invest in Peace. We will work toward a measurable Economic Peace Dividend—transforming the benefits of safer communities into greater opportunities for education, employment, housing, economic mobility, and family stability. To Share Responsibility. We recognize that no single program, organization, institution, or individual can build peace alone. We will contribute our relationships, resources, influence, and collective efforts toward the well-being of the entire Village. To Remain Accountable. We will return to the table, evaluate our commitments, measure our progress, acknowledge where we have fallen short, and continue working together toward lasting change.
OUR SHARED DECLARATION
We understand that peace is more than the absence of violence. It is the presence of justice, opportunity, belonging, dignity, and hope. We do not pledge to eliminate every disagreement. We pledge to ensure that our disagreements never become greater than our shared responsibility to one another. We do not promise perfection. We promise participation, accountability, and continued commitment.
We recognize that peace is not something we simply inherit. It is something we must intentionally cultivate, collectively protect, and continuously sustain
