Join us for a day of discovery with our Metal Detecting Adventure! Participants will explore the beach or park, searching for hidden treasures while enjoying the outdoors and connecting with nature. This activity is a fun way to develop focus, curiosity, and patience, while also encouraging social interaction and teamwork. Entry and equipment are included. Participants are welcome to bring hats, sunscreen, water, and spending money for optional snacks. Pick up & drop off: Petrie Water Mill Meeting Point

Slips, trips, or falls on uneven ground, sand, or grassy areas
Cuts or punctures from sharp objects or debris discovered while detecting

Strategies to Reduce Risk
Conduct a pre-departure safety briefing outlining safety rules, boundaries, and equipment use
Maintain 1:1 or 1:2 staff-to-participant ratios depending on support needs
Provide and ensure use of sun protection (hats, sunscreen) and adequate hydration
Supervise participants closely, particularly around uneven terrain or water
Ensure first-aid kits, emergency contacts, and communication devices are available
Provide guidance on safe handling of metal detecting equipment
Monitor participants for fatigue, overheating, or emotional distress
Establish clear meeting points and buddy systems to prevent separation
Check area for hazardous debris, wildlife, or unsafe ground prior to starting
Offer rest breaks and shaded areas if needed
Ensure food safety for snacks or lunch and monitor for allergies
