Dance Company Student Contract

Welcome to the 2025-2026 Dance Company Season. You are dancers that have chosen to commit to improving your technique through advanced classes, broadening your scope of artistry through additional performance opportunities and classes, and exhibiting personal & local responsibility by fundraising for community causes. Other dancers, as well as adults and friends look up to you for your positive life choices. As directors, family members and team members – we are here to encourage you and to help you to grow in your technical, artistic and emotional journey.

I agree to attend all classes and actively participate in technique classes throughout the Fall/Spring and Summer seasons as a company dancer. My attendance will be consistent and regular. If my attendance falls below 80% - I understand that I may lose my privilege to dance with MIMCompany and that make-up classes are required to maintain 80% attendance in my classes within 3 months of an absence

I agree to attend all rehearsals unless sick or with written prior approval (which I will submit via email 1 month prior).

I agree to work on improving myself as a dancer outside of the classroom with the practice of regular stretching, the review of videos and practicing routines at home for both my technique classes and MIMCompany dances. I understand that if I am not prepared upon arrival for rehearsal or class, the teacher or choreographer reserves the right to adjust choreography as necessary due to my actions

I understand that dance is a sport that can be prone to injuries. I promise to inform my choreographers and instructors immediately of any pain or discomfort and to seek medical help. I do not hold Music In Motion Dance Company or it’s officers liable for any injuries sustained while participating in Music In Motion Dance Company sponsored events.

I promise to treat others as I would like to be treated, upholding the values and practices of a responsible, mature dancer by:

arriving on time, 15 minutes early, for every rehearsal and not having excess absences to class or rehearsal

by helping my teammates and others when in need, cheering them on and supporting our mutual successes and failures.

by always being prepared for rehearsal, performance & competition with a positive mental and physically prepared attitude

I promise to be empowered and take ownership of my environment and the team environment by exemplifying the following behaviors

Going out of my way to help others on the team, in the dance studio, at events and in life

Always being safe

Having fun and helping others to enjoy themselves as well

Working to solve problems together and not engaging in “cliquey” or exclusive behavior

Going out of my way to meet and get to know new people on the team and in the dance studio

Trying new things and encouraging others

Anti-bullying Contract

At Music in Motion, we believe in fostering a positive, inclusive, and supportive environment for all dancers. Our dance community is built on respect, encouragement, and teamwork. To ensure that all students can learn and grow in a safe space, we have established this Anti-Bullying Contract. Bullying in any form, whether towards others or oneself, will not be tolerated, and serious consequences will be enforced.

Definition of Bullying

Bullying includes, but is not limited to, any of the following behaviors:

Verbal bullying: Teasing, name-calling, taunting, or making inappropriate comments about someone's appearance, dance abilities, the progress they are making in their classes, or their recovery after an injury or setback.

Social bullying: Excluding someone from a group, spreading rumors, or encouraging others to turn against someone, especially in relation to their dance progress or participation in class activities.

Physical bullying: Hitting, pushing, or any form of physical aggression.

Cyberbullying: Sending harmful texts, emails, or messages via social media platforms or group chats, including those that criticize or mock someone's dance skills or progress.

Self-bullying: Engaging in negative self-talk, self-criticism, or harmful actions towards oneself, particularly in relation to one’s dance journey, abilities, or progress.

Behavioral Expectations: As a dancer at Music in Motion, I commit to:

Respecting Others: I will treat all members of the Music in Motion community, including myself and my teachers, with kindness and respect, both in and out of the studio.

Creating a Positive Environment: I will contribute to a positive and supportive atmosphere by encouraging my peers, offering help when needed, and avoiding negative behaviors like gossiping, excluding others, or spreading rumors.

Being Mindful Online: I will use social media and group chats responsibly, avoiding any negative or harmful behavior online that could hurt or exclude others.ption 3

Consequences for Bullying Behavior I understand that bullying behavior will result in the following consequences

First Offense: A formal warning and a discussion with the directors and my parents/guardians.

Second Offense: Removal from small group, solo, duet, or trio placements for the current season.

Third Offense: Exclusion from future casting opportunities and potential removal from Music in Motion Dance Company.

These consequences are designed to maintain a safe and positive environment for all dancers and to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Reporting, Mediation, and Support

If I experience or witness bullying, I will report it immediately to a teacher, director, or staff member. I understand that all reports will be taken seriously and handled confidentially. Music in Motion is committed to supporting students who are affected by bullying and will provide resources and assistance as needed.

Additionally, a formal complaint system is available for students to request mediation amongst peers, staff, or groups. This system is in place to ensure that any conflicts or issues can be addressed in a fair, respectful, and constructive manner.
