We’re catching the train into Brisbane City for a special day out to see Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom on the big screen!
The adventure starts with a train ride into the city, giving participants the chance to experience public transport together before heading to the cinema for the movie, snacks and plenty of laughs with friends.
It’s a fun day out that also naturally supports social confidence, independence, road and public transport safety, communication and community participation in a supported environment.

* Slips, trips or falls at train stations, on trains, within the cinema, shopping centre, toilets, stairs, escalators or surrounding public spaces
* Participant becoming separated from the group while travelling, at a train station, within the city or at the cinema
* Risks associated with train platforms, including proximity to platform edges, moving trains and gaps between the train and platform
* Participant attempting to enter or exit a train without staff direction or becoming separated from the group as train doors close
* Interaction with members of the public in busy train stations, on public transport or within the Brisbane CBD
* Road and traffic risks when walking between the train station, cinema and other locations within the city
* Emotional distress, anxiety or sensory overload due to trains, crowds, announcements, noise, darkness, movie volume or unfamiliar environments
* Distress or dysregulation associated with unexpected changes, delays or disruptions to the planned journey
* Challenging behaviours, impulsive actions or interpersonal conflict between participants
* Participant leaving the designated activity area without notifying staff
* Allergic reactions or dietary concerns associated with cinema snacks, drinks or other food provided
* Choking while consuming popcorn, confectionery, snacks or drinks
* Participant requiring access to the bathroom while travelling or during the movie
* Medical event or participant becoming unwell while away from home
* Emergency evacuation of the train, station, cinema or other public venue
* Unexpected public transport disruptions, cancelled services or changes to cinema arrangements
## Potential Repercussions
* Minor injuries including cuts, bruises, grazes, strains or sprains
* Participant becoming temporarily separated from the group
* Injury associated with trains, platforms, stairs, escalators, roads or other public environments
* Emotional distress, anxiety, sensory overload, withdrawal or dysregulation
* Behavioural escalation impacting the participant or group
* Allergic reaction or choking requiring first aid or medical assistance
* Illness or medical event requiring parent/guardian collection or emergency assistance
* Disruption to the planned activity due to transport delays or participant support needs
* Serious injury or incident requiring first aid, emergency services or evacuation
## Alternative Options
* Sensory supports such as headphones or ear defenders during train travel and the movie
* Access to quieter areas and supported breaks where reasonably available
* Participant may leave the cinema with a staff member for a supported break if they become overwhelmed or distressed
* Alternative snacks or drinks based on known allergies and dietary requirements
* Additional individual support where this has been arranged based on the participant's assessed support needs
* Parent/guardian collection if a participant becomes unable to safely continue with the excursion
* Alternative travel arrangements may be considered if public transport becomes unavailable or unsafe
* Activities may be modified or discontinued where staff determine that continuing presents an unacceptable risk
## Strategies to Reduce Risk
* Ensure participant profiles, medical information, allergies, individual risk assessments, emergency contacts and relevant consent forms are reviewed prior to attendance
* Maintain appropriate staff-to-participant ratios based on the ages and individual support needs of participants
* Provide participants with a clear safety briefing before commencing the excursion, including expectations for train travel, walking through the city and attending the cinema
* Conduct regular headcounts and participant check-ins throughout the day, particularly before and after boarding trains and when entering or leaving venues
* Keep the group together when navigating train stations, platforms, pedestrian crossings and busy public areas
* Establish clear supervision zones and ensure staff are positioned appropriately throughout the group when walking or using public transport
* Participants must remain behind designated platform safety lines and away from platform edges until staff advise it is safe to board
* Staff to actively supervise participants when boarding and exiting trains and ensure the group is accounted for immediately afterwards
* Where practical, staff to position themselves near train doors when boarding and exiting to reduce the risk of participants becoming separated
* Participants must not board, exit or move between areas without staff direction
* Use designated pedestrian crossings and follow traffic signals when navigating the city
* Establish clear meeting points and ensure participants know to remain in a safe location and seek assistance from Marching Forward staff if they become separated
* Provide close supervision around stairs, escalators, train platforms and other higher-risk areas
* Review known food allergies and dietary requirements before purchasing or distributing snacks and drinks
* Prepare participants for the day's schedule, including the train journey, walking, cinema environment and expected transitions
* Allow appropriate sensory supports and provide breaks where required
* Monitor participants for signs of anxiety, fatigue, distress, illness, injury or dysregulation throughout the excursion
* Ensure staff carry charged mobile phones, emergency contact details, relevant participant information and appropriate first aid supplies
* Staff to follow Queensland Rail, station, cinema and emergency service directions in the event of an incident or evacuation
* Check train services and planned travel routes prior to departure and have an alternative plan in the event of significant delays, cancellations or disruptions
* Contact parents/guardians or emergency services where required if a participant becomes unwell, injured, significantly distressed or cannot safely continue with the activity
* Adapt supervision and activities throughout the day according to individual participant needs and changing circumstances
