How do you normally prepare for a presentation?

Panic, procrastinate and hope for the best

Write everything down and try to memorise it

Prepare carefully and rehearse a few times

You’re halfway through your presentation and completely lose your train of thought. What happens?

Internal meltdown. I want the ground to swallow me.

I apologise, get flustered and desperately search my notes

I pause, find my place and carry on- although it rattles me

I stay calm, improvise and probably nobody notices

How comfortable are you with your body language when speaking?

What DO I do with my hands?!

I’m aware I look nervous or awkward sometimes

Fairly comfortable, although I could be more polished

Very comfortable. I know how to use the space and my body to communicate

When you’re speaking, how much are you thinking about the audience?

I’m mostly thinking, “What are they thinking about ME?”

I’m concentrating so hard on remembering what to say that I sometimes forget about them

I try to engage and connect with them

They’re my focus. I read the room and adapt to their energy

How would you describe your voice when presenting?

Quieter or shakier than I’d like

I tend to rush, stumble or forget to breathe

Generally confident, but I could improve my pace, pauses or delivery

Strong, clear and expressive. I know how to use my voice

How do you feel the night before an important presentation?

I genuinely dread it

There may be some tossing, turning and rehearsing conversations at 3am

Nervous, but mostly excited

Calm and ready. Those butterflies are useful energy

Have the confidence to actually get up there and do it

Control my nerves and stop overthinking everything
