When you stop or delay drinking, your body can respond in a few different ways depending on how used to alcohol it has become. Some people feel normal with no withdrawal symptoms. Others notice strong cravings, irritability, or trouble sleeping, even if they don’t feel physically sick. For some, withdrawal becomes more physical—shaking, sweating, nausea, a fast heart rate, or even feeling like they need a drink in the morning to feel “normal.” In more serious cases, symptoms can escalate to confusion, hallucinations, or seizures, which can be dangerous and should be treated as an urgent medical situation.
