Purpose:Lock in design decisions and substrates before ordering any paint.
Confirm all paint colors + sheens in writing from homeowner
Review finish schedules: exterior vs. interior surfaces
Check siding, trim, drywall, caulking, and prep work readiness
✅ Collect physical paint samples — get homeowner initials on approval
✅ Identify premium/high-wear areas → bathrooms, stair rails, kitchens
✅ Confirm siding caulk cure time before painting
✅ Add all prep expectations to Detail Page (filling, sanding, priming)
PM Note:
Final color must be signed off before ordering — no gray areas on gray paint selections.
Purpose:Order correctly while preventing project delays and waste.
Decide who orders paint → sub or PM
Verify correct paint system for each area
Include weather and curing considerations for exterior applications
✅ Confirm exact quantities with painter (exterior + interior)
✅ Document receipts & upload to budget tracker
✅ Stage paint at proper temp → avoid freezing or overheating
✅ Maintain touch-up inventory labeled by room or elevation
Weather Readiness:
Tarps, tenting, heaters, fans → prepare for climate
Purpose:Ensure substrate prep and schedule alignment before mobilization.
Final verify all materials are onsite
Confirm site protection requirements
Final punch on hardware & trim (no painting around future fixes)
✅ Ensure all masking surfaces are complete & clean
✅ Label “non-paint items” → glass, fixtures, tile edges
✅ Schedule PPE + fall protection for exterior painting
✅ Confirm landscaping protection plan (plastic, drop cloths)
✅ Walk with homeowner to reconfirm color placement
✅ Predict weather — adjust dates if rain/cold at risk
Purpose:Verify adhesion, coverage, and surface protection from the start.
✅ Walk materials with painter → confirm nothing missing or mismatched
✅ Watch masking quality — no overspray onto roofs, windows, stone
✅ Check for:
Uniform primer coverage
Straight cut lines
Nail hole + seam fill quality
✅ Confirm laser-straight lines where materials meet
Documentation:
✅ Photo all first-coat finishes to compare against final
PM Reminder:
The first coat reveals framing, drywall, and siding mistakes. Add fixes immediately.
Purpose:Ensure homeowners get the clean, crisp finish they paid for.
✅ Conduct Blue Tape Walk — interior + exterior
✅ Inspect:
Roller lines
Brush marks
Overspray
Drips/runs
Color consistency
✅ Confirm caulking continuity — no cracks or gaps
✅ Protect areas drying → restrict access
✅ Confirm paint cure time before installing hardware or gutters
Purpose:Document condition and create future touch-up plan before releasing payment.
✅ Punch list with completion dates
✅ Ensure house is walked by:

✔ Installer
✔ Homeowner
✅ Confirm:
✔ Finished per spec
✔ No damaged finishes,
✔ Site cleanup complete
✅ Provide touch-up kit labeled by:

Sheen
✅ Update budget with final receipts
✅ Office approval required BEFORE payment release
