A conflict of interest occurs when a trustee has a personal interest that may influence them when making decisions. Each year, every trustee is required to disclose any potential conflicts of interest. There are 4 encompassing conflicts: financial conflict (business interests, fiduciary duties, professional duties), non-financial conflict (professional duties, legal obligations), conflict of roles (professional duties, loyalty to family/friends), or predetermination (mindset). An example of this is if a trustee elicits donors/sponsors from our established donor/sponsor base for their own business. Nepotism is another example.
